French-Russian actress Marina Vlady dies at the age of 88

The French-Russian actress Marina Vlady is dead. Vlady died at the age of 88, the AFP news agency reported, citing a statement from the family. She died “at home, surrounded by her relatives and her animals,” her children said in the statement, in which they paid tribute to “a long, beautiful and fulfilling life.” Vlady made more than 80 films before she also started writing books.

"Throughout her acting career, which began in early childhood alongside her parents, she enriched with her presence the films of Chris Marker, Jean-Luc Godard, Orson Welles, Bertrand Tavernier, André Cayatte, Ettore Scola, Jean Delannoy and many others, as well as those of her first husband Robert Hossein," her relatives wrote.

Internationally acclaimed actress

Vlady made her international breakthrough with the youth gang drama “Before the Deluge” in 1956, before she went from being a girl star to becoming an internationally acclaimed actress in “The Blonde Witch.” For many years, Vlady devoted herself primarily to her second career as a writer. At the age of ten, the daughter of a dancer and an operetta tenor, born near Paris, appeared in front of the camera for the first time. She played a young girl who is in love with a man who is more than ten years older than her - as would later be the case in her personal life. Director and actor Robert Hossein was about ten years older than her. She dedicated one of her most successful books, “A Love Between Two Worlds,” which was published in German in 1991, to her third marriage to the Russian poet and protest singer Vladimir Vysotsky of the same age, who died in 1980.
