Woman's body found near Zülpich: husband arrested on suspicion of crime

After a woman's body was found in a forest near Zülpich, investigators continue to assume that it is a 46-year-old missing woman from Euskirchen. Her husband (51) was arrested on Thursday under strong suspicion. According to a spokesman, the Bonn public prosecutor's office is examining whether to apply for an arrest warrant against him. According to police, the suspect has remained silent so far.

The husband gave interviews during the search for the woman, who was still reported missing at the time. According to “Bild,” he told a reporter on Thursday afternoon that he had nothing to do with his wife’s disappearance. The husband told “RTL” that he noticed a dark car in the morning. The 51-year-old was arrested hours later.

First, look for a recycling center

The police initially searched a recycling center because, in his own words, the husband had brought garbage there from water damage. A woman's body was later discovered in the forest. The police announced on Thursday evening that there was no doubt that it was the missing person. A forensic medical examination should provide final clarity. According to the public prosecutor's office, the result was still pending on Friday.

As a police spokesman said, the man has not yet wanted to respond to the allegations. Therefore nothing can be said about a possible motive.

The 46-year-old mother of two had been missing since last Friday. According to initial police reports, she left her apartment at 10 a.m. that morning and did not show up for work at lunchtime. The police described her as very reliable.
