Friedrich Merz in Kiev: New 1.35 Billion Euro Support Package for Ukraine

Merz, who met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Kiev, called out to Russian President Putin in his statement and said, "Stop this senseless war. We are ready to discuss ending the war, but these barbaric attacks on the civilian population in Ukraine must end." he said.

Merz pointed out that what happened in Kiev showed the impact of the war on daily life in Ukraine and said, "War crimes are committed here every day." he said.

Thousands of interceptor drones expected to be delivered

According to the German government's plan, military support worth approximately 1 billion euros will be provided to Ukraine. In this context, it is planned to deliver thousands of interceptor drones to be used against Russia's fast combat drones.

It is also envisaged to accelerate the production of long-range weapons that can be used against Russia's supply lines behind the front.

Germany also plans to expand cooperation with Ukraine on the development of joint production of weapons and unmanned aerial vehicles.

In addition, 350 million euros will be allocated for the repair and reconstruction of power plants destroyed in Russian attacks. Thus, the total announced new military and energy support will reach 1.35 billion euros.

Germany has been among Kiev's most important supporters since the beginning of Russia's attacks on Ukraine.

The total support Germany has provided to Ukraine so far has exceeded 43 billion euros.
