Grafinger Mayor Christian Bauer (CSU) died at the age of 57

The mayor of the Upper Bavarian town of Grafing, Christian Bauer (CSU), died unexpectedly at the age of 57. According to the “Merkur”, Bauer suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed on Tuesday evening during a meeting of the building committee in the town hall.

According to the report, city councilors immediately provided first aid and alerted the emergency services. A short time later, the emergency doctor and other emergency services arrived and tried to resuscitate the unconscious town hall boss. However, resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful. According to information from the newspaper, Bauer died on Tuesday in the Ebersberg Munich East Clinic.

In order to get the mayor to the clinic as quickly as possible, the fire department decided to take him out of the building using a turntable ladder via a large window in the town hall. The Grafinger market square was temporarily closed for transport.

According to “Merkur”, Bauer initially worked as a city treasurer for 22 years before winning the mayoral election for the CSU in 2020 against the then incumbent Angelika Obermayr (Greens). It was only in March of this year that he was confirmed for a second term in office by a clear margin.

As the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” reports, local politicians in the Ebersberg district reacted to the news with dismay. CSU District Administrator Robert Niedergesäß said: “We are all stunned, dismayed, full of sadness and our thoughts are with Christian Bauer and his family.”

The local politician leaves behind his wife, two daughters and a son.
