Gregory van der Wiel Made Shocking Statements About His Fenerbahçe Period

Former Dutch football player Gregory van der Wiel, who ended his football career in 2019, made flash statements about the time he spent in Fenerbahçe.

Speaking to Circus Daily, van der Wiel said, "I literally lived through hell" about the short period he spent in the yellow-dark blue club.

The statements of the 38-year-old former right-back are as follows:

"I went to Fenerbahçe for money, that's true. There were other options. However, I rejected other offers because the financial conditions offered by Fenerbahçe were better. I wanted to earn money as quickly as possible and quit football as soon as possible. I signed a 4-year contract, but it was all over within 3 months.

We beat Monaco in the first match of the Champions League qualifying round, and I scored a goal. Then we lost away and were eliminated from the Champions League. Then we lost with a mediocre game in the first league match. Then the president called me to his office and said, "You are worthless, don't think you are anything, you are nothing." This happened three months after I signed. I have a great career, I just came from a big club. Okay, Turks are people who act with their emotions, we played badly too, of course there will be criticism, but not like this. So I started defending myself. 'I am a well-known right-back player, we cannot score if we do not attack. I said, 'If I can get to the end line, I can make a cross, but there were no such opportunities in the matches I played because we played mostly defensively.'
