War in Ukraine: Donald Trump's emissaries arrived in Moscow

Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff are expected in the Russian and Ukrainian capitals during an intense weekend on the diplomatic front. The plane carrying the two emissaries of Donald Trump landed at Vnukovo Airport in Moscow at 12:52 (11:52 in France) on Saturday, September 5, announced the Russian news agency Ria Novosti. According to the media outlet Axios, the two Americans are first heading to the Russian capital for talks with Vladimir Putin, before traveling to Kyiv on Sunday to meet Volodymyr Zelensky. This will be the first time Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff visit the Ukrainian capital.

Airports targeted in Kyiv. Ahead of this trip, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia on Saturday of carrying out strikes against several locations in the country, as well as "deliberate" attacks on two airports in the Kyiv metropolitan area. "It is clear that these Russian strikes against the airports constitute a reaction to the discussions and preparations regarding the possibility that [Donald Trump's emissaries] would use a plane to travel to Ukraine," the head of state denounced on social media. "Next week, we will adjust our operations accordingly with regard to Russian airspace," he threatened.

An "idea for peace." Asked on Friday from the White House about the reason for the trip of the two American representatives, US President Donald Trump replied that it was to "see if we could move things forward." "There is a good chance we will succeed," Donald Trump affirmed. "We have an idea for peace," he added without further details.

A ceasefire proposed by Kyiv. Volodymyr Zelensky proposed to his Russian counterpart to observe a ceasefire for the duration of the American emissaries' tour. "There will be no air strikes from our side, and Russia must, in return, guarantee a ceasefire – without carrying out its own air strikes – for the entire period necessary to conduct these negotiations," the Ukrainian president declared in his address on Friday evening.

A Russian attack kills at least four. At least four people were killed and five injured in a Russian attack on the city of Kamianske, in central Ukraine, announced the regional military administration on Saturday morning. "Three of the injured are in the hospital. Among them is a 30-year-old woman who is in intensive care," wrote Oleksandr Ganzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional administration, on Telegram.
