Gurugram Authorities Issue Advisory Following IMD Heavy Rainfall Warning

The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Gurugram, on Saturday issued a public advisory after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) sounded a nowcast warning for heavy rainfall in the district, urging residents to avoid non-essential travel and stay away from waterlogged areas.

In a statement issued on September 5, the IMD forecast rainfall exceeding 15 mm per hour over the next two to three hours, accompanied by moderate thunderstorms and gusty winds. Acting on the warning, the DDMA advised citizens to:

Avoid non-essential travel, as far as practicable

Avoid waterlogged roads, underpasses and low-lying areas

Stay away from trees, electric poles and overhead wires

Refrain from crossing flooded stretches

The authority said all concerned departments and emergency response agencies have been directed to remain vigilant and take necessary precautionary measures. "Stay Safe. Stay Alert," the advisory, issued by the office of the District Magistrate-cum-Chairperson, DDMA Gurugram, said.

NCR battles another wet weekend

The advisory comes amid a fresh spell of heavy rain across the National Capital Region, a day after intense showers on Friday triggered widespread waterlogging, flight delays and traffic snarls in Delhi and its suburbs. A weather station in Gurugram recorded 44.5 mm of rainfall, while Noida logged 0.5 mm during the same spell.

The IMD had earlier issued a red alert for all 11 districts of Delhi, warning of moderate to heavy rain, and red and orange alerts remained in force for parts of the region through Saturday morning. The weather department has forecast continued thunderstorms and moderate rain at intervals through the day, with the wider Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi belt remaining under a rain warning.

Authorities have said rain intensity is expected to ease from Sunday, with light rain or drizzle likely on September 6 and partly cloudy conditions expected from September 7 onwards. Residents across the NCR have been advised to plan travel carefully and exercise caution, particularly in areas prone to waterlogging.
