Here, customs in Umeå stop the flow of drugs from abroad

At the beginning of November 2024, customs received increased powers, including more chances to check mail entering the country. Previously, they were only allowed to check the letters and parcels that passed through Arlanda and other first-hand sorting terminals.

Now they are allowed to carry out secondary checks in the local sorting terminals outside the country. In Västerbotten, it concerns Postnord's sorting terminal in Umeå and sorting points used by other postal operators.

- It has been a huge change, says Oscar Oscarsson.

From 2025 to the end of September this year, customs in Västerbotten had seized narcotics and doping in the mail to a value of around SEK 4.6 million.
