Man charged with attempted rape in Roraima

The crime occurred on August 29th. The delegate from the Specialized Women's Assistance Police Station (DEAM), Carolina Huppes, reported that the woman was at a party at the Dandãezinho Exhibition Park, on BR-174, when she asked for a ride to return home.

The suspect agreed to take her and, after leaving another passenger in the São Bento neighborhood, diverted his route to an isolated area. According to the delegate, at the scene, the man removed the victim from the vehicle and began attacking her in an attempt to rape her.

The woman managed to free herself and escape. She then asked for help from people passing through the region and was rescued by a couple, who called the Military Police. The forensic examination confirmed injuries compatible with the reported attacks.

As the victim did not know the perpetrator, the police analyzed images recorded at the place where she had boarded the vehicle.

The representation for preventive detention was made on August 31st. The following day, the warrant was executed by the DEAM team. The arrest was not announced at the time because the investigation was still ongoing, according to the delegate.

After the arrest, police continued to analyze statements, images, medical records and forensic examinations. This Thursday (10), the delegate concluded the investigation, and the suspect was charged with attempted rape qualified by serious bodily injury.

The investigation was forwarded to the Public Ministry of Roraima (MPRR) and the Judiciary.
