Mainz once again showed its enormous away strength under coach Urs Fischer, the first win of the season after the 0-0 opening draw against Paderborn was more than deserved.

"We want to let out everything that's in us and win the game," Polzin said before the game, but without the royal transfer Vieira, who was initially sitting on the bench, HSV actually didn't take off offensively. Mainz seemed more well-rehearsed, more structured and had better ideas.

Consequently, the Rheinhessen had the first really good chance of the game through Nadiem Amiri (14th), five minutes later they struck - Becker kept his nerve after a counterattack and casually pushed in.

On the other hand, HSV had surprisingly little idea of ​​how to create their own opportunities for a long time, and their efforts repeatedly got stuck in the Mainz defense thicket. And the standards? Also rather harmless. And because the home team remained vulnerable defensively, Mwene was able to increase the score before the break.

In the second half, Polzin brought in three new players around Vieira. The stadium hoped to catch up – but only briefly. Instead, Tietz made everything clear after further preparatory work by the strong Becker.

After all: HSV didn't give up. The team tried to come back somehow, but almost nothing succeeded against the ripped-off Mainz team on Sunday.
