Ekrem İmamoğlu will defend in the İBB case

The 97th hearing in the case filed against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) on corruption charges has ended.

In the second hearing of the case, the defenses of all detained and unarrested defendants were completed, except for nine fugitive defendants, one undetained defendant and the detained defendant Ekrem İmamoğlu.

In the case whose 98th hearing will be held today, the defense of Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was suspended from his duty as Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor after his arrest on March 23, 2025, will be taken.

It was learned that İmamoğlu's defense will last 4 days.

REQUESTED PENALTIES

In the approximately 3,900-page indictment prepared in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) case, where 436 defendants, 51 of whom are detained, are on trial, the prosecutor's office demands a prison sentence of 828 years to 2,352 years for İmamoğlu, who they claim is responsible for 142 separate actions.

İmamoğlu, on the other hand, describes the case as political and denies all accusations against him.

63 DEFENDANTS WERE RELEASED

In the IMM case, which started on March 9, 2026, 63 defendants have been released so far.

The first session was completed on July 8, 2026. The second session started on August 17. At this stage, the defense statements of the undetained defendants and those included in the file within the scope of the additional indictment were taken.
