Minister Gürlek, who made a statement on his social media account, used the following statements: No murder will remain in darkness, no perpetrator will escape justice! Under the leadership of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in coordination with our Ministry of Internal Affairs, with the strong coordination of our Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices and police and gendarmerie organizations, we continue to resolutely pursue unsolved murders.
Under the coordination of our Unsolved Crimes Investigation Department, which we established within our Ministry on April 24, 2026, we brought to light 6 more murder files that had remained in the dark for years. Thus, we lifted the veil of secrecy over the unsolved incidents involving 52 victims and 7 injured people in 46 files.
- In the file regarding the death of 7-year-old Medine Kesmeni, who was found seriously injured in the roadside irrigation canal in Bursa / Mustafakemalpaşa in 2020 and died a day later; Vehicle parts at the scene, PTS and base records, and new witness statements were evaluated together. Suspect Erkan Edincik was arrested for "intentional murder through negligence".
- The bones found in the stream bed in Diyarbakır/Bismil in 2014 and whose identity could not even be determined for 12 years were determined to belong to Dilek Kalkan, who disappeared in 2013, through DNA analysis. After the file was reopened, 6 of the 7 suspects considered to be linked to the incident were detained, and efforts are continuing to capture 1 suspect.
- 8 suspects were identified as a result of the examination of camera footage, HTS and base records in the file of Mehmet Köstekçi, who died after being shot with a gun after following people who tried to enter his house in İzmir/Torbalı on March 8, 2026. During the operation, all of the suspects were caught and detained.
- In the file of Felemez Kulaç, who was killed by an armed attack in Muş/Hasköy in 2011, the hostility dating back to 1988 and the activity before and after the incident were revealed again with HTS, base and PTS records. 11 people were caught and detained during operations against suspects related to the incident; Judicial proceedings against other suspects continue.
- The file of Sedat Ünal, who was killed and left on the side of the road in Nevşehir/Ürgüp in 2008, was re-examined. With the re-examination of criminal findings, DNA data and HTS records from 18 years ago, movement from the unlicensed casino where the victim was last seen to the crime scene was revealed; Legal proceedings were initiated against 7 suspects for intentional murder.
- In Siirt/Baykan, the file of Mekiye Akyel, who disappeared in 2024, was searched with hundreds of personnel in an area of 190 thousand square meters; Digital footprints, HTS and PTS records, witness accounts and contradictory statements of the suspects were examined in detail. As a result of the investigation, an indictment was filed against the suspects, including his ex-wife and his relatives, for the crimes of deliberate murder and deprivation of liberty, with a customary motive.
To our chief public prosecutors' offices in Bursa-Mustafakemalpaşa, Diyarbakır-Bismil, İzmir-Torbalı, Muş, Nevşehir-Ürgüp and Siirt-Baykan, who work with great devotion to clarify these files; I would like to thank the responsible units of our provincial and district gendarmerie organizations, our JASAT teams, our Forensic Medicine Institute and all our colleagues who contributed.
We will not forget any murder. We will not cover up any files. We will not allow any perpetrator to go unpunished!
