Die IG Metall geht mit einer Forderung von fünf Prozent mehr Geld in die Verhandlungen. Der Tarifvertrag soll eine Laufzeit von 12 Monaten haben. Zudem will die Gewerkschaft eine Gewinnbeteiligung für Beschäftigte in «Boom-Unternehmen» durchsetzen sowie über die Absicherung von Arbeitsplätzen und Standorten verhandeln. Giesler bezeichnet die Tarifforderung von fünf Prozent als «maßvoll».

Die Arbeitgeber halten die Forderung nach Worten von NRW-Metallarbeitgeberpräsident Arndt G. Kirchhoff für «eindeutig zu hoch und völlig unrealistisch». Eine auch nur annähernde Umsetzung der Forderung würde den zuletzt schon beschleunigten Personalabbau noch weiter verschärfen, hatte der Verband der Metall- und Elektroindustrie NRW nach Bekanntgabe der Forderungen mitgeteilt.
