General Augelli of the Guardia di Finanza meets the Secretary General of the OAS in Washington

Army Corps General Vito Augelli, Inspector for Educational Institutes of the Guardia di Finanza, met in Washington with the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) Albert Ramdin, accompanied by the Italian Permanent Observer Roberto Nocella.

For some years now, the Guardia di Finanza has been collaborating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (Maeci) and with the OAS for the creation of courses aimed at fighting financial crimes at the Economic-Financial Police School, located in Ostia Lido, open to officials from Latin American and Caribbean countries. Lastly, at the instigation of the Farnesina, a specific in-person course was organized for Mexico, preceded by online training activities. Furthermore, as part of a further project financed by Maeci, the Guardia di Finanza will send its personnel to the so-called Adjacency Zone between Guatemala and Belize in October for ethics and anti-corruption courses for the benefit of the Armed Forces of the two countries.

During the meeting, the Secretary General of the OAS thanked the Guardia di Finanza for its collaboration, hoping for its intensification and pointing out that the fight against organized crime and corruption are priorities in the region. General Augelli has expressed great willingness to explore this path further, in collaboration with the Maeci, underlining how the activities and expertise of the Guardia di Finanza can contribute to strengthening the four pillars of the OAS: democracy, human rights, security and integral development. For the Permanent Observer Nocella, it was an important visit aimed at strengthening the existing partnership and opening up new opportunities for joint work.
