Newcastle sign Amar Dedic from Benfica

Newcastle have announced that they have signed Bosnian defender Amar Dedic from Benfica for a fee of around £30 million (around €36 million). The 24-year-old Dedic, born in Austria, who made three starts at the recent World Cup, has signed a five-year contract. The right-back will reunite with Newcastle's new manager, Matthias Jaissle, with whom he won the Austrian championship with Salzburg in 2023.

Newcastle have had a tricky summer transfer window, losing Anthony Gordon to Barcelona, Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali to Tottenham and Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal. Well-regarded coach Eddie Howe also left the team after five years. The Saudi-owned club have signed defensive midfielder Aladji Bamba and Ivorian left winger Bazoumana Touré, as well as goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek, targeting young talent. Newcastle will host Liverpool on Sunday in the first matchday of the Premier League.
