India and Bangladesh Plan Visit by PM Tarique Rahman Amid Extradition Concerns

NEW DELHI: After an earlier attempt was aborted, India and Bangladesh are looking to schedule a visit by PM Tarique Rahman to India in the third week of Nov, sources said. Efforts to reschedule the visit are likely to gain momentum after the arrival of the new Bangladesh high commissioner, Asad Alam Siam, in the last week of Oct or early Nov. For Dhaka though, the key concern - one which might decide whether the visit materialises - is the unresolved issue of former PM Hasina's extradition. Rahman's birthday greetings to Modi and the latter's prompt response seem to have boosted the likelihood of an early finalisation of dates for the visit. However, neither side has confirmed - or denied - reports that NSA Ajit Doval travelled to Dhaka recently. The 'visit' was reported to have taken place on Sept 17.
