The notification stated, “These rules may be called the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026.” It further said, “They shall come into force with effect from the 1st day of July, 2026.” According to the revised Schedule IV, passports issued to applicants under the adult category will continue to be valid for up to 10 years, while passports issued to minors will remain valid for five years or until the applicant attains the age of 18 years, whichever is earlier. The amended fee schedule will apply to passport applications submitted on or after July 1, marking the first major revision of passport service charges under the updated rules notified by the Centre.
