China News Service, Beijing, June 20 (Reporter Ying Ni) The second children's publishing innovation seminar "Cross-border symbiosis and breakthrough--IP incubation and cross-border exploration of Chinese and foreign children's publishing" was recently held at the 32nd Beijing International Book Expo.
Nearly a hundred experts, scholars, publishers, and industry media in the field of children's book publishing discussed how to create valuable IP, innovative ideas for cross-border development, and new paths for the integrated development of children's publishing.
Wu Shulin, chairman of the China Publishing Association, said in his speech that China's children's publishing is entering a period of adjustment, and innovation is urgently needed to solve industry problems.
He pointed out that the publishing industry must adhere to the principle that content is king, turn content into multiple copyright assets such as audio and video, language model training, etc., and build a solid foundation for copyright; it can learn from "Harry Potter" and others to innovate content and lengthen the entire IP industry chain. At the same time, we should maintain the position of children’s paper reading, make good use of artificial intelligence, and adhere to the rigor and accuracy of knowledge. We must also work together to rectify piracy chaos and promote industry recovery through cross-border innovation.
Zeng Rui, chairman of China Children's Press and Publishing Corporation, believes that it is necessary to promote the transformation of the industry from "content products" to "long-term IP".
To break the situation, we must first lay a solid foundation for IP to be established. For example, Zhongshao Headquarters and Dunhuang Cultural Tourism have in-depth cooperation on "Visible Dunhuang", starting from books to lay out various business formats such as research and cultural creation, so that text resources can be effectively transformed into viable IP assets; deep cultivation of scenarios makes IP come alive, open cooperation allows IP to be integrated, and broadens the boundaries of IP applications.
At the seminar, Bai Bing, honorary editor-in-chief of Jielie Publishing House and children's literature writer, listed a number of initiatives in the domestic children's publishing industry that are actively exploring IP creation: some use original children's books as the IP matrix, and gradually extend to audio, animation, etc., to build a complete content ecosystem, such as "Treasure Hunt in Greater China" by 21st Century Publishing House, "Monster Adventure" by Jielie Publishing House. "Teacher"; some are deeply involved in traditional culture and classic works IP, such as the Humanities Society's "Humanities Treasure" Cultural Creation, "Morning Blossoms Picked Up at Dusk" coffee supply and marketing cooperative, the Forbidden City Press's "Forbidden City Calendar" and other products; some are developing publications in conjunction with popular film and television IPs to convert film and television fans into readers, such as CITIC Publishing Group and the creators of the film "Nezha: The Devil Boy Comes into the World" jointly create books.
However, IP creation has a long cycle and high risks, requiring long-term investment and persistence.
As representatives of foreign publishing houses, Shane Perera, Managing Director of Sri Lanka's New Star Publishing House, Xu Shuqi, Managing Director of Malaysia's Red Dragonfly Publishing Co., Ltd., So Sonita, Marketing Director of Cambodia's National Publishing and Distribution Agency, Mesbuti Ahmed, President of Bangladesh's Ankur Publishing House, and others also conducted in-depth discussions.
The event is hosted by the Children's Books Working Committee of the China Publishing Association and Guangxi Publishing and Media Group, and hosted by Jielie Publishing House. (over)
