The international coalition's mission to fight ISIS in Iraq has ended

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi spoke at the official ceremony held in the capital Baghdad on the occasion of "Sovereignty Day" and the completion of the international coalition's mandate.

Noting that security and field control have been achieved throughout the country thanks to the years of "sacrifice and heroic" efforts of Iraq's security forces, Zaidi said that the US-led international coalition's mission to fight DAESH in the country has officially ended and that September 30, 2026 will be "a day that will remain in memories."

Stating that the end of the international coalition's mission to fight DAESH showed that the cooperation between friendly countries and peoples "gained victory against one of the darkest periods of extremism and brutality," Zaidi stated that the struggle of the Iraqi people together with the armed forces paved the way for the restructuring of the army.

Stating that friendly countries supported Iraq in this critical struggle, Zaidi said that the Iraqi armed forces have also rearranged their ranks and become stronger in terms of weapons and equipment.

Thanking the countries participating in the international coalition and the commanders, officers, trainers and advisors working with the Iraqi security forces, Zaidi emphasized that the end of the coalition's mission does not mean that the fight against terrorism is over.

Zaidi stated that this development is a transition to a new era in which Iraq will assume full responsibility for its security and stability.

Stating that security cooperation with friendly countries in the international coalition will continue and that this cooperation will become more effective and focused, Zaidi noted that technology and digital solutions will be used to support security and stability within the scope of cooperation.
