Iran’s embassy in Sierra Leone on Thursday challenged the US to “come to Iran” with an animated Minesweeper-style video set over the Strait of Hormuz. “Habibi (Uncle Sam), come to Iran!” the post read, referring to the US.

The Iranian embassy paired the message with a 35-second animated video showing a 3D map of the Strait of Hormuz with a game of Minesweeper being played over it.

The post came after US President Donald Trump said US forces had removed Iran-laid mines from the Strait of Hormuz and were continuing to move oil tankers through the key shipping route.

"We've controlled, and we are controlling the Hormuz Strait. We are bringing lots of boats out every day with millions of barrels of oil. We are, for the most part, doing it without trouble," Trump told reporters.

"They (Iran) were trying to rebuild their radar systems and a missile system and a mine drop. You know, we got rid of all the mines in the Hormuz Strait," he added.

Fighting between the US and Iran has intensified this week after Washington struck Iranian rocket launchers on an island in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, saying Tehran was planning to use them to lay mines in the waterway.

In retaliation, Iran launched ballistic missiles at two US military targets in Jordan, claiming to have caused “heavy damage”. Jordan’s army, however, said it had intercepted eight missiles.

US forces subsequently struck Iranian military targets in the second attack of the month, while Iran launched retaliatory strikes across the region despite a warning from Trump.

According to US Central Command, the strikes targeted IRGC “air defense sites, radar systems, maritime assets and facilities, mine laying capabilities, and communications sites”.

Iranian state media, however, alleged that the US had struck a wedding.

“We’re aware of the reports, which originated from Iranian state media. The U.S. military never targets civilians, unlike the IRGC,” Central Command spokesperson Timothy Hawkins said.

The US-Iran war has now crossed the six-month mark, with Trump continuing to cite preventing Tehran from acquiring a nuclear weapon as his central objective.
