The incident took place at night in July last year, on 3103 Street in Modernevler District. İsmail Özdemir had an argument with Nafiz Gürbüz on the grounds that he was disturbing his fiancée Feyza Tanrıkulu. During the growing argument, Gürbüz opened fire on Özdemir with the gun next to him. Özdemir was injured by bullets hitting his chest and heart. Özdemir, who was taken to Isparta City Hospital by healthcare professionals who were dispatched to the region upon notice, lost his life. Nafiz Gürbüz, who escaped after the incident, was caught by the police at his relative's house in Çünür District. Gürbüz, who was taken into custody, was arrested in court.
''I DID NOT EVEN HURT AN ANT''
Nafiz Gürbüz, who was sued for 'deliberate murder', appeared before the judge at the verdict hearing at the Isparta 2nd High Criminal Court. İsmail Özdemir's parents, relatives and lawyers of the parties attended the hearing. The presiding judge gave the defendant the first word at the hearing and asked if he could add anything to his defense. Defendant Gürbüz said, "I have been working at the same workplace for 10 years. I have not even hurt an ant. I am left-handed and I have been injured with a gun before. Such an incident occurred accidentally due to fear, panic and rush when the door of my vehicle was forced. I am sorry, I regret it. I also apologize to his family."
The court panel stated that the reports requested from the experts in the previous hearings had been completed and asked whether the lawyers of the parties would defend themselves in this regard. The defendant's lawyer stated that his client was diabetic and requested a new report from the Forensic Medicine Institute. However, the court rejected this request.
OPINION WAS GIVEN
In the opinion given at the hearing, it was stated that the defendant offered friendship to the fiancée of the deceased İsmail Özdemir, and when she did not accept, he continued to insist, that the victim requested protection and that there was a restraining order, that there was no doubt that he shot with a target on the night of the incident, not to intimidate, and that the defendant be punished for the crime of 'deliberate murder'. The court panel gave the parties a promise regarding the opinion. The defendant's lawyer claimed that his client was not looking at the target when he opened fire, the bullet went in and out of the left arm and then hit the heart, and requested that the sentence be given for the crime of 'deliberate wounding'. The plaintiff's attorney stated that they agreed with the opinion and requested that the defendant be punished for the crime of 'intentional murder'.
Defendant Nafiz Gürbüz, who was asked for his last words, said, "I do not accept the slanders thrown against me. I trust in justice." The presiding judge announced that the defendant was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the crime of "intentional murder" and 1 year and 8 months in prison for the crime of "possession of an unlicensed weapon", a total of 26 years and 8 months in prison and a fine of 8 thousand 350 lira.

Speaking after the hearing, Ahmet Yasir Pirimoğlu, the lawyer of the Özdemir family, said, "The case process has progressed in a healthy way from the very beginning. Of course, we experienced a very sad event. My client's family has been in great grief about this incident until today. Of course, this decision will not bring their children back, but it was a fair decision."
''HE MAY NOT SEE THE DAY TOO''
İlkay Özdemir, who lost his only son in the incident, said, "Justice has been served. It will not bring my son back, but he should not see the light of day either. I hope he rots there. He will never come out again."
Father Müslüm Özdemir said, "My son will not come back, but our hearts are a little bit relieved with the decision."
Relatives of the family applauded the decision in the courthouse garden, saying 'Long live justice'.
