After the election defeat in Israel, the leader of the Ultra-Orthodox Shas Party decided to hand over his seat in parliament.

Deri, the leader of the Shas Party in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's ruling bloc, stated in his written statement that he requested permission from his party's religious council to transfer his duty as a member of parliament to another name on his party's candidate list.

Deri said, "I requested and received approval from the Council of Torah Sages to relinquish my seat on the Shas list in order to make room for our young representatives who have proven themselves in their work in the Israeli Parliament." he said.

Stating that the Council decided to remain at the head of Shas and that he plans to make field visits to many regions of Israel in the future, Deri noted that his party will continue to chair the weekly group meetings in the Parliament and follow the legislative and commission work.

In the parliamentary elections held in Israel on October 27, the Shas Party had its worst result in the last 30 years, reducing the number of its deputies from 11 to 6.

Parliamentary elections in Israel were held on October 27, and according to the final official results announced on November 4, the current coalition and opposition bloc could not reach 61 seats, sufficient to form a government in the 120-seat Israeli Parliament.

Today, Israeli President Isaac Herzog officially gave the task of forming the government to opposition Yashar Party leader Gadi Eisenkot.

The Yashar Party leader will have 28 days to form the government, and an additional 14 days will be given if necessary.
