Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating illegal data panel use

Within the scope of the investigation carried out by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was determined that the personal data of citizens were illegally obtained and used in inquiry systems called 'panel' and that this system was used by law offices.

NOTIFICATIONS ARRIVED

A report was made to the prosecutor's office, alleging that some law firms obtained the identity, address and bank information of people for whom they did not have power of attorney and whom they did not follow legally, and called and sent messages to these people with unfounded accusations such as 'you have a debt that is under legal pursuit, you missed the reconciliation process of the investigation against you, a foreclosure process has been initiated against you'.

Following these notices, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation. Within the scope of the investigation, it was determined that information such as identity number, address and mobile phone, which should remain confidential, were integrated into the illegal interrogation program called "panel" and sold to law firms in exchange for financial benefit.

CONCRETE EVIDENCE

Concrete evidence has been detected that law firms normalize this situation and call and send messages to other people who are not related to the legal process through a monthly subscription system.

A detention order was issued for 31 lawyers who were found to have used the 'illegal panel interrogation' program in violation of their duties and powers as lawyers.

MINISTER GÜRLEK: NO ONE WILL GET AWAY WITH IT

Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek, who announced the investigation on his social media account, said in his post: "The privacy of our citizens is untouchable for us. Anyone who commits unlawful acts by abusing the law will not get away with it."
