Traffic congestion, road collapse and flood events after a downpour in Istanbul and Ankara

The showers continued throughout the night in Istanbul. Due to the heavy rain, Zincirlikuyu underpass on Nisbetiye Street was flooded. While the teams started working to drain the water from the underpass, the underpass was closed to traffic for a while.

VEHICLES FALLED INTO THE PIT

On Fatih Mutaflar Street, the road collapsed in the area where municipal teams had previously worked. The vehicles that fell into the pit formed after the rain were rescued with the intervention of the surrounding citizens. Part of the street was closed to traffic due to potholes.

LAND RECORDING BUILDING WAS VACATED

A building was evacuated after a landslide in Eyüpsultan.

After the heavy rain throughout the night in Istanbul, traffic congestion occurred in the morning hours. On the first working day of the week, according to Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Traffic Density Map data, traffic density reached 71 percent as of 08:00.

MANHOLE OVERFLOWED AFTER A SHOWER IN ANKARA; THE HOUSES ON THE LOWER FLOOR WERE FLOODED

There was a heavy downpour in the city at night. Due to the heavy rain, puddles formed on streets, boulevards and under some bridges.

In Keçiören district, the entrance and basement floors of some buildings were flooded due to heavy rain in Basınevleri District Gülgün Street, where a road collapse occurred due to floods on September 22.

In a flooded building, citizens tried to evacuate the water with their own means.

Burak Adaçoğlu, who lives in the building, told reporters that they have been experiencing infrastructure-related problems such as floods and road collapses on their streets for a long time.

Adaçoğlu stated that she left her 16-month-old child at home and cleaned her building, adding:

"We have been cleaning the sewage water in our house since the evening today. I was drenched in sewage water. I left my 16-month-old child, who had a fever of 40 degrees, at home just to clean the sewage water inside my building. Thanks to ASKİ, they came from ASKİ, they drained the water and said, 'our work is done, we are leaving.' they said. 10 minutes later, the rain accelerated again and the manhole filled again. They told us, 'The company that won the tender will arrive in 15 minutes and open the manhole.' No one coming, no going, nothing. For God's sake, do not victimize the citizens so much. I'm cleaning sewers here and I get up at 7.30 in the morning and go to work. I am a person working in the private sector. If I don't go to work, he will cut my wages. It's a shame for me, isn't it a sin?"

Veysel Dalmış, who lives on Gülgün Street, also stated that they were victims and said, "The buildings are now filled with half a meter of water. The two flats of the building below are completely filthy." he said.

Gökhan Kaya stated that he had just renovated his house and was a victim of the flood.
