Jio Platforms reported a 13.7% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 8,389 crore for the September quarter of FY27, while revenue from operations rose 11.4% to Rs 40,475 crore. The company also recorded growth across key operational parameters, with its customer base expanding to 542.4 million, data traffic increasing 22.1% and average revenue per user (ARPU) rising to Rs 218.8. The results, announced on Friday, mark the company's first earnings announcement since its stock market debut on October 28. Jio Platforms' consolidated net profit increased to Rs 8,389 crore in Q2 FY27 from Rs 7,379 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Revenue from operations climbed to Rs 40,475 crore from Rs 36,332 crore over the same period. The company also reported an improvement on a sequential basis, with net profit rising 8% from Rs 7,765 crore in the June quarter. Revenue increased 3% quarter-on-quarter. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) grew 17% year-on-year during the quarter, driven by revenue growth, operating leverage and a 250 basis points expansion in margins.

Jio Platforms' customer base increased to 542.4 million in the September quarter, compared with 506.4 million in the year-ago period, registering growth of 7.1%. The company added 9.1 million net customers during the quarter, against 8.3 million in Q2 FY26 and 8.9 million in the preceding June quarter. Monthly churn stood at 1.6%, unchanged from the previous quarter but lower than 1.9% recorded in the corresponding period last year, marking a reduction of 30 basis points. For FY26, the reported figures included a customer base of 524.4 million, net customer additions of 36.2 million and monthly churn of 1.7%.

Jio Platforms' average revenue per user (ARPU) rose to Rs 218.8 in Q2 FY27, up 3.5% from Rs 211.4 in the year-ago quarter. It was also higher than Rs 215.6 recorded in Q1 FY27. Promotional schemes for fixed broadband customers offset the benefits of a better subscriber mix and increased usage during the quarter. Data consumption also recorded growth. Total data traffic increased 22.1% year-on-year to 71.3 billion GB, compared with 58.4 billion GB in Q2 FY26. The figure was higher than the 69.4 billion GB reported in the preceding quarter. Monthly data consumption per customer rose to 44.2 GB from 38.7 GB a year earlier, an increase of 14.2%. In Q1 FY27, the figure stood at 43.7 GB. Meanwhile, voice traffic increased 1.3% year-on-year to 1.52 trillion minutes from 1.50 trillion minutes. It remained unchanged compared with the previous quarter. For FY26, the reported figures included an ARPU of Rs 214, data traffic of 241.4 billion GB, monthly data consumption of 42.3 GB per customer and voice traffic of 6.05 trillion minutes.

Ahead of the quarterly earnings announcement, Jio Platforms shares were trading at Rs 1,437.50 on the NSE, up Rs 15.90 or 1.12%. On the Bombay Stock Exchange, the stock stood at Rs 1,431.20, up Rs 8.15 or 0.57%. The company's shares had made their stock market debut earlier this week at Rs 1,358, a premium of 21% over the issue price of Rs 1,119. The listing marked the first stock exchange debut by the Reliance conglomerate in two decades. It also propelled Mukesh Ambani's Reliance group past the Tata group to become India's largest conglomerate by market value. Jio Platforms, the telecom and digital services business of Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani, competes with Bharti Airtel. Both companies are focusing on expanding their 5G networks, growing data consumption and monetising their large subscriber bases in the world's most populous country.
