José Dirceu announces the end of treatment against lymphoma and says that the test indicates remission of the disease

Former minister José Dirceu announced this Saturday (5) the completion of treatment against lymphoma. He stated that tests indicate the remission of the disease.

José Dirceu, 80 years old, discovered the disease during tests on May 10th. He completed his first cycle of chemotherapy in the same month.

Candidate for federal deputy, Dirceu campaigned virtually due to his health. He will spend the final month of the campaign at home to recover.

Former minister José Dirceu announced this Saturday (5) that he has completed treatment for lymphoma and that a test indicates that the disease is in remission. Dirceu was diagnosed with lymphoma in May and began treatment at Hospital Sírio-Libanês, in São Paulo.

In a message, the former minister thanked the medical team that accompanied him and stated that he will stay at home during the last month of the electoral campaign to recover from the treatment.

"I want to announce that I have completed treatment against lymphoma and the test indicates remission of the disease", said Dirceu on his social network on X.

He also thanked doctors Raul Cutait and Celso Arrais and the other professionals at Hospital Sírio-Libanês who accompanied him during the period.

"I want to thank the entire medical team at Hospital Sírio-Libanês, including Dr. Raul Cutait and Dr. Celso Arrais, and all the professionals who welcomed me with great respect and dedication in these last eight months", he said.

Dirceu also thanked him for the prayers and highlighted the support from family and friends during the treatment.

"I thank you for your prayers and I want to say that, without the support of my family, my daughters, sons and grandchildren, and all the friends and activists who were by my side, my recovery would not be possible."

José Dirceu, 80 years old, was admitted to Hospital Sírio-Libanês on May 10 for general tests, which identified lymphoma. At the time, the hospital reported that he was in good clinical condition and would remain hospitalized to begin treatment.

Four days later, on May 19, Dirceu was discharged after completing the first cycle of chemotherapy. According to the medical report released at that time, he had completed the cycle "without complications" and remained in good general condition.

Dirceu is a candidate for federal deputy for São Paulo for PT. During treatment, he began campaigning predominantly virtually, due to restrictions related to immunity and the effects of chemotherapy.

In this Saturday's announcement, he stated that he intends to spend the last month of the campaign at home, focusing on recovery.

"I will spend this last month of the campaign at home, recovering from the treatment, but with even more hope that we will win and continue changing our Brazil", he added.
