Julian Alaphilippe announces his retirement from professional cycling

Now it is official: Julian Alaphilippe has decided to hang up his bike. Confirming it on Instagram is the same cyclist, twice world champion, who is ending his career at 34 years old.

"It is with particular emotion that I write these words to announce the end of my career. After much reflection, I have had the honor of closing this chapter of my life on the Champs‑Élysées," writes the Frenchman. "I feel immense gratitude for having had the opportunity to meet extraordinary people throughout my career and also a great dose of luck for having realized some of my dreams," he concludes, thanking the fans who have supported him over the years.

In 13 seasons racing among the professionals, Alaphilippe has won two World Championships (Imola 2020, Liège 2021), in addition to the 2019 Milan‑San Remo, plus a stage of the 2024 Giro d’Italia, one in the 2017 Vuelta, and a solid six at the Tour de France.
