Protest from KESK to Highway and Bridge Privatizations

KESK Ankara Branches Platform protested the inclusion of bridges and highways in the privatization program with the OVP on Sakarya Street in Ankara Kızılay. A press release was held here. In the statement, KESK Co-Chairman Ayfer Koçak was the first to speak. Stating that 20.3 of every 100 lira collected in 2027 will go to interest, Koçak said, "90 percent of the privatization policies that started in 1986 were realized under the AKP government. The government announced that the Bosphorus and FSM and eight highways were included in the privatization program. While the fee for a car toll on publicly operated bridges is 59 lira, the fee for a car toll on the bridge operated by a private company is 110 lira. "Privatization revenue of 183 billion lira in 2027 and 163 billion lira in 2028 is targeted. This government's MTP is anti-labour, friendly to capital," he said.

'EXPROPRIATION, NOT PRIVATIZATION'

Then, Yapı Yol-Sen Chairman Gültekin Narinli spoke. Narinli said, "The AKP government, which is going through old books like a bankrupt merchant, has set its sights on highways and bridges again. We have learned that the privatization cost is targeted at around 3.5-4 billion dollars. The monthly income of the highways and bridges planned to be privatized corresponds to 70 million dollars. The estimated annual income is 840 million dollars, and its 30-year income is 25.2 billion dollars. Highways and bridges belong to the people, they should be free of charge. The privatization decision is to sell Türkiye's future. "Privatization is a cost of living. The privatization decision should be canceled immediately, not privatization but expropriation," he said.
