The ANSM sends a personalized letter to 1.6 million women on the risk of meningioma linked to desogestrel

Cerazette, Optimizette, Antigone, Elfasette… From September 14, the mailboxes of women taking one of these contraceptive pills, or one of their generics, could contain an unusual letter from the National Medicines Safety Agency (ANSM). The latter will in fact send personalized information to approximately 1.6 million women who have had at least one reimbursed prescription for desogestrel 75 mcg.

More than 90,000 healthcare professionals were also informed. A large-scale operation carried out until September 30, to warn them of a very low but now established risk of meningioma, a tumor developing from the meninges. “The objective of these personalized letters is to create a real dialogue between the patient and her healthcare professional.
