Italy advances in digital maturity with digital identity and AI as levers of trust

Italy continues to make progress on the path to digital maturity, reducing the gap with Europe in internet use, connectivity and digital skills. On the one hand, in 2025, our country has reached 79.5% of SMEs with at least a basic level of digital intensity, compared to 72.8% of the EU20 average based on Eurostat data; on the other hand, digital identity has become a true infrastructure of trust for accessing public and private services with around 12 million users who have used the CIE to make at least one online access in the last 12 months. In this scenario, artificial intelligence constitutes the lever to transform identity from a static authentication tool to a contextual intelligence engine, capable of assessing risk in real time, preventing fraud, making onboarding processes more fluid and personalizing digital interactions. These are some of the main findings of the study "Digital Identity, Artificial Intelligence and Trust by Design", the third report created by Deloitte as part of its activities as Knowledge Partner of the first edition of WeSec - Il Salone della Sicurezza, promoted by ABI and which will be held in Milan on 22 and 23 September. Institutional representatives and the most authoritative experts in security, geopolitics, artificial intelligence and infrastructure will participate in the event.
