Actress Hayden Panettiere dies at 36 after cardiac arrest in South Carolina

The actress's boyfriend Hayden Panettiere and his brother, Brian and Zach Hickerson, called the emergency services last Sunday to report that the artist was unresponsive. They did so from an apartment complex in South Carolina, where emergency doctors later certified his death, according to a police report.

Panettiere, known for playing an indestructible cheerleader in the series Heroes and a country music star in Nashville for which she was nominated for two Golden Globes, was found after suffering cardiac arrest at the residence where she was temporarily staying in Greenville, on Sunday afternoon, the coroner's office reported, according to CNN.

A Greenville police officer who responded to the scene interviewed brothers Brian and Zach Hickerson, who said they called 911, according to a police report released Tuesday. "I spoke to Zach Hickerson first; he told me it was his brother's girlfriend," the officer wrote in the report. Brian Hickerson showed the agent a bag with Panettiere's medications, according to the report published by CNN and in which many details of the police document are redacted, including the list of the actress and singer's medications.

The shocking death of Panettiere, 36, caused shock from Hollywood to Ukraine, where her daughter's father mourned the loss of the actress and activist, who fought against numerous causes and personal problems. "Our family is going through a time of deep shock and pain," Wladimir Klitschko, his ex-partner and former world heavyweight boxing champion from Ukraine, posted on X on Tuesday. "He built an incredible career thanks to his immense talent, while facing the darkest aspects of a very demanding industry."

Panettiere, a Palisades native and California resident, was found unresponsive at the South Carolina residence where she was temporarily staying, according to the coroner's office. The address corresponds to an apartment complex, local police reported.

Micah Lee, a resident of the complex where the actress died, said his cats started acting strangely on Sunday. He looked out and saw many people in the hallway, but quickly returned to his apartment. "I heard through the door that someone had passed out," Lee told CNN. Lee received an email from the property manager asking residents not to speak to the media.
