Gloria Steinem's house in Manhattan will become a laboratory for the American feminist movement

Gloria Steinem's home on Manhattan's Upper East Side, where the activist closed her eyes forever on Wednesday, will become a laboratory for the American feminist movement.

Steinem, who died at the age of 92, lived in the brownstone on 73rd Street for decades, making it a meeting place for intellectuals, activists and protagonists of culture and politics who gathered there to discuss major social issues. It was during a meeting in her living room that the idea for Ms. magazine, the historic feminist magazine of which Steinem was co-founder, took shape in 1971. For years, moreover, the house hosted his famous 'talking circles', meetings for discussion and discussion during which, recently reclining on a large red sofa, Steinem stimulated thoughts and action plans.

The house, in front of which admirers of all ages have been placing bouquets of flowers since yesterday, will continue to have this function.

Jill Heller, director of programs for Gloria's Foundation, said the home will remain a permanent space for political organizing, activism and debate.

Over the years, Steinem had purchased three of the five floors of the building and it was she who decided before her death what the future of her house should be. One is already occupied by the foundation, while the other two are destined to become part of it in the future.
