Gasoline and diesel exceed 2 euros per liter at many gas stations in Spain

A few days before the Government's discount on hydrocarbons expires, both gasoline and diesel already exceed 2 euros per liter in many parts of Spain. The conflict in the Middle East, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and Houthi attacks on refineries in the Gulf region continue to aggravate an unprecedented supply crisis for these fuels according to the International Energy Agency. Although the Spanish territory is trying to stop the increases in pumps through a tax reduction, the impact on the pocketbooks is already being felt by many citizens with vehicles.

Drivers look with concern at the price panels at gas stations in Spain every day in the hope of finding one that does not reflect that amount of 2 or more euros per liter. However, as we reported from La Información Económica de 20minutos, the liter of diesel has already accumulated 16 consecutive days of increase, while gasoline has accumulated 20 consecutive days.

According to data from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (Miteco), diesel is already at 1,942 euros on average, while gasoline is at 1,946 euros per liter. Which are the communities where this impact or increase to 2 euros per liter is most noticeable?

The communities where gasoline exceeds 2 euros/liter

The impact of the pump supply crisis is already being felt throughout Spain, but there are autonomous communities in which the effect is more noticeable. The Balearic Islands stand out as first in the table in terms of the largest number of gas stations that mark 95 gasoline at 2 or more than 2 euros per liter with 166 service stations, which translates into 79% of the total gas stations with published prices. The average price is 2,041 euros per liter.

Cantabria follows, with 56.4% of its gas stations (93 specifically) above 2 euros per liter. And, next, the Basque Country, which has this price in 167 service stations, 51.9% of the total. The Principality of Asturias is very close, with pumps of 2 or more euros per liter at 112 gas stations, which represents 49.6%. The rest of the table for Gasoline 95 is as follows:

Communities where diesel costs more than 2 euros/liter

Regarding regular diesel or diesel, the Balearic Islands continue to occupy the highest position in the table with 174 service stations, 80.6% of the total and with an average price of 2.045 euros per liter. In this context, it is the Principality of Asturias that occupies second place, with 140 gas stations representing 58.1%, and Cantabria follows with 89 service stations, which translates into 53% of the total.
