Long queues when election day begins - early voting breaks records

While early voting looks set to break a historical record, election day has also begun with long queues at the polling stations in several locations. The electoral authority therefore urges the public to be out in good time.

Joshua and Emily Horton stand outside the Nybohov School in Liljeholmen. They come from England and are going to vote in the Swedish election for the first time.

- We have a newborn child so we haven't had time to vote early. There have been many other things to think about, says Emily.

Joshua tells us that they have lived in Sweden for six years but that they lack Swedish citizenship. They can therefore only vote in the municipal and regional elections.

- It is important to vote. For us, healthcare and education have been the most important in the election, says Joshua.

There are a handful of people who voted early in Liljeholmen who came back on election day to make sure that their vote was registered correctly.

The electoral authority has announced that in some municipalities early votes may have been incorrectly registered between August 26 and September 3 - the most feared figure is that 500 voters are affected.

Early voting is also possible in any early voting location during election day. It should also be said that those who are already in line when the polling stations close at 8 p.m. may vote.
