Lawyer Warns of Consequences for Conspiracy Theorists Targeting Patrick Clancy

The attorney for Patrick Clancy, Lindsay Clancy's ex-husband, is threatening "consequences" for conspiracy theorists who spread rumors about him.

"Enough is enough — this spread of blatant and baseless falsehoods must stop," his lawyer, Howard Cooper, said in a statement on Tuesday.

Lindsay Clancy's trial — in which she was accused of murdering her three children in 2023 — ended in a mistrial due to jury deadlock last week. While she admitted to killing the children, her defense argued that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time of the incident and could not differentiate right from wrong.

Tim Cruz, district attorney in Plymouth, Massachusetts, where the trial took place, has not decided if there will be a second trial for Lindsay Clancy, CBS News reports.

Despite the focus of the trial being on Linsday Clancy, Cooper said his client has become the subject of an "escalating campaign of misinformation and defamatory statements" suggesting that Patrick Clancy had something to do with the children’s deaths.

"This campaign of misinformation has been launched and promoted by minor celebrities, so-called influencers and outright conspiracy theorists who appear intent on boosting their own social media profiles and potential profit by publishing what they know to be outright falsehoods that Patrick was somehow involved in the death of his young children and other vile claims," Cooper said in the statement.

He said the conspiracy theories and rumors have "resulted in real life threats" to Patrick Clancy's "reputation, livelihood, and life."

"Those responsible should understand that there will be consequences, and every appropriate measure will be pursued to hold them accountable, including legally. Law enforcement has been notified," Cooper wrote.

After the trial, a reporter from WBZ-TV asked Lindsay Clancy's attorney, Kevin Reddington, for his opinions on the various conspiracy theories surrounding Patrick Clancy.

"You know, regarding the people on the internet, you know, I certainly don't dismiss them. It's amazing what people on TikTok and on Instagram – I do know those things – you know, it's amazing how they're able to ferret out facts and they do investigations," he said.

Then, the same reporter asked him about the conspiracy theories on Tuesday after Cooper issued his statement.

"The guy's been through hell and back," Reddington said. "He has, as I've said repeatedly, stood by her, during the period of time dealing with the doctors, dealing with the medications. While she's awake at night, in their house, taking her to doctors, taking her to the hospital, going to McLean, taking her to, dropping her off at the, Rhode Island hospital, the suicide lines, all of it. He's been there with her, and still stands by her by way of his testimony. And...it's — I think it's just horrible what he's been going through."

Patrick Clancy was the one who found his children after Lindsay Clancy killed them. He divorced her and has since remarried.

Lindsay Clancy remains in custody at Tewksbury Hospital near Boston, where she has been held since February 2023.
