The Kremlin justifies Russian strikes near the Polish border

The Kremlin spokesperson on Monday September 14 justified the Russian strikes carried out the day before in Ukraine very close to the Polish border, affirming that they were part of the “missions” of its armed forces. “It’s about Ukrainian territory. Our military personnel carry out their missions throughout Ukrainian territory and will continue to do so,” declared Dmitri Peskov, in response to a question from AFP during his daily press briefing.

“Scare” Ukraine’s allies

According to Polish and Ukrainian authorities, a Russian drone struck the locomotive of a passenger train linking kyiv to Warsaw on Sunday, 2 kilometers from the border with Poland, a member country of the European Union and NATO, without causing any casualties.

Western figures, including former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the ex-director of the US intelligence agency CIA, David Petraeus, were at a train station in western Ukraine "shortly" before Russia struck the train in the area, the Ukrainian railway company said. Dmitri Peskov did not directly comment on this strike on this locomotive on Monday.

Warsaw also indicated that another drone had struck a gas station near a border post, still on the Ukrainian side. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who chaired an emergency meeting after the attacks, warned of a possible intensification of Russian attacks in Ukraine. For her part, the head of diplomacy of the European Union, Kaja Kallas, estimated on Monday that this strike against a Ukrainian train aimed to “scare” Ukraine's allies so that they would stop their support for kyiv.
