The mayor of Chaumont, Antoine Desfretier, injured by gunshot

Taken in by emergency services on the night of August 18 to 19, the mayor of Chaumont (Haute-Marne), Antoine Desfretier, himself was shot and injured. Information confirmed by the public prosecutor of the judicial court.

We now know more about the circumstances surrounding the bullet wound of the mayor of Chaumont, Antoine Desfretier. It “is the result of an act committed against himself”, confirmed the public prosecutor Denis Devallois. The councilor “left manuscripts explaining his discomfort. He was operated on and his life is not in danger”. The reasons for his action are, however, unknown at the moment.

Hospitalized in Dijon

Antoine Desfretier was taken into care by the Dijon hospital during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, after calling for help himself. When they arrived, the elected official was found "alone in his car" but the prosecutor refused until now "to raise any hypothesis with regard to the dignity of the person".

During the afternoon, this Wednesday, August 19, a press release was released by the city of Chaumont. It is specified that "Mr. Desfretier, president of the Agglomeration and mayor of Chaumont, is currently hospitalized at the Dijon University Hospital. To our knowledge, his life is not in danger. While awaiting his recovery, elected officials and services are continuing the work underway."
