The Paris prosecutor's office opens investigations into women filmed without their knowledge using connected glasses

The Paris prosecutor's office has opened several investigations in France after receiving complaints concerning women filmed in the street with connected glasses without their consent, he said on Tuesday, requested by AFP. The prosecution specified that it had been “received of complaints relating to breaches of privacy linked to the use of connected glasses”.

The e-Enfance association, which manages line 3018, a national number dedicated to victims of digital violence, alerted on September 8 to the growing phenomenon of humiliating videos made with glasses equipped with cameras and broadcast online.

Since the start of the year, 3018, the national number dedicated to victims of digital violence, has received around twenty reports concerning women filmed without their consent using glasses equipped with a camera, the majority of which concerned Meta models, the association said at the time.

“We must review the supervision of these devices from their design. And when creators make the humiliation of strangers their business, the platforms must apply zero tolerance and suspend repeat offender accounts,” argues Véronique Béchu, director of the Observatory of the e-Enfance 3018 Association.

Connected glasses allow you to take photos and videos, listen to music, make phone calls, translate signs into a foreign language, project text or maps into the field of vision, or even interact with an integrated artificial intelligence assistant. Meta has reportedly developed a facial recognition feature ready to be integrated into its connected glasses.
