South Line of the Recife Metro reaches the second day without working after electrical failure

CBTU expects the service to resume late this Thursday morning (17). On Wednesday (16), a short circuit hit the overhead network, which distributes energy between the tracks.

The Recife Metro South Line is out of service for the second day in a row after an electrical fault interrupted train circulation.

The service was interrupted on Wednesday night (16) due to a short circuit in the overhead power network.

CBTU plans to resume operation of the South Line late this Thursday morning (17).

The Metropolitan Transport Council reinforced four bus lines as alternative transport for passengers.

The South Line of the Recife Metro reached, this Thursday (17), the second day without working due to an electrical failure (see video above). The circulation of trains on this line has been interrupted since early Wednesday evening (16) after a short circuit hit the overhead network, which distributes energy between the tracks.

The forecast is that operations will resume later in the morning, according to the Companhia Brasileira de Trens Urbanos (CBTU). According to TV Globo, the recovery of the damaged air network between Largo da Paz and Imbiribeira stations should be completed at 9:30 am, and the return of activities for passengers is expected to take place from 10:30 am.

CBTU reported that the closure took place around 6:15 pm. The Southern Line, which is 25.2 kilometers long between Recife and Jaboatão dos Guararapes, transports 60 thousand passengers daily.

Walter Salvino left the Casa Amarela neighborhood, in the North Zone of Recife, towards the Aeroporto Station, in Imbiribeira, in the South Zone of the capital of Pernambuco. When he arrived at Joana Bezerra Station, on Joana Bezerra Island, in the central area of ​​the city, he discovered that the Southern Line was closed and had to change his plans for the route.

"It's quite complicated because I didn't know about it [about the ban] and I was taken by surprise. Now I'm going to have to catch a bus, so it's complicated for me. [...] I'm going to have to face it, I'm already tired, because I ran to try to get here quickly, but look at the time, I'm already late", said the passenger.

As an alternative for passengers, the Metropolitan Transport Council (CTM) reinforced four bus lines during the closure of the Recife Metro South Line:

185 - IT Cable;

166 - TI Cajueiro Seco (Rua do Sol);

115 - TI Aeroporto/TI Afogados;

168 - TI Tancredo Neves (Conde Boa Vista).

Another passenger, identified only as Mário, left the Pina towards Cabo de Santo Agostinho, in Greater Recife, when he was also surprised by the closure of the Recife Metro South Line. “Nobody down there was warning [of the closure], and they should have been warning,” he said.

The TV Globo team that went to Joana Bezerra Station found that the local security agents were notifying about the closure of the Southern Line only to passengers arriving from other trains.
