LIV Golf in crisis fails to attract key investment, “BC Partners withdraws investment”

The British Financial Times reported on the 4th (local time) that BC Partners, a private equity fund management company, withdrew its investment plan to relaunch LIV Golf.

The decisive reason is that LIV Golf was unable to secure the participation of major players.

As LIV Golf fell into severe financial difficulties due to the suspension of funding from Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund (PIF), it pursued financial restructuring and attracted investors, and recently received funding of up to $300 million (approximately 400 billion won) from BC Partners and made plans to launch a new type of league, LIV 2.0.

However, as key players such as John Lam and Sergio Garcia (both of Spain) continued to leave, the team composition and profit model were disrupted, and BC Partners, a key investor, eventually withdrew.

LIV Golf is in danger of extinction due to BC Partners' withdrawal of investment.

The Athletic, an American sports media outlet, reported, "LIV Golf is preparing to liquidate its business," citing multiple officials.

Reuters reported, "LIV Golf is committed to continuing operations, but it has become unclear whether the 2027 season will be held normally." He added, "We plan to appear at a hearing held at the Bankruptcy Court in Trenton, New Jersey, USA on the 5th."
