Lonely Planet, one of the world's most influential travel publications, listed Europe's winter routes in its selection titled "The 13 Best Places to Visit in Europe in Winter" published on August 21, 2026. Cappadocia from Turkey was at the top of the list.
In the selection where 13 famous European destinations were evaluated, Cappadocia; It left behind strong tourism destinations such as Fuerteventura and Bilbao in Spain, Madeira and Alentejo in Portugal, Côte d'Azur and Lyon in France, Bavarian Alps in Germany, Santorini in Greece, Cinque Terre in Italy, Budapest in Hungary and Lapland in Finland.

Lonely Planet pointed out that Cappadocia has a much more impressive appearance with snow. It was emphasized that the snow cover added a different dimension to the natural formations of the region, historical houses and churches carved into the rocks.
It is stated that the winter months also offer visitors a quieter exploration opportunity since it is the low season in Cappadocia; It was noted that important cultural and tourism spots such as Keşlik Monastery, Kaymaklı Underground City and Göreme Open Air Museum can be visited less frequently.

While the boutique cave hotels of Cappadocia were shown as one of the important elements of the winter experience, it was reminded that hot air balloons, which have become the symbol of the region, fly throughout the year, but there may be cancellations due to weather conditions during the winter months.
