Catania airport suspends air traffic due to Etna activity

On Monday evening, Catania airport announced the suspension of arrivals and departures. The restrictions will apply until Tuesday at 10:00. Due to the situation, some flights may be canceled or changed, and disruptions may also affect other airports in the region.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, via the Odyseusz system, appealed to travelers to check the current status of their connection on the carrier's website or application before leaving for the airport. The ministry also recommends contacting the airline directly to confirm travel details.

In the event of a flight cancellation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs suggests considering travel from other airports, including: in Palermo, Trapani, Comiso, Reggio di Calabria, Lamezia Terme or Malta.

This is not the first time recently that Etna's activity has affected air traffic in Sicily. In the first half of August, prolonged volcanic activity caused serious problems at Catania airport, leading to the cancellation of hundreds of flights.
