Lula visits Hospital São João de Deus in Pará and highlights the first robotic surgery by the SUS in the Amazon

At the hospital, he followed, according to Health Minister Padilha, "the first robotic surgery by the Unified Health System (SUS) in the Amazon region."

Lula arrived at the health unit around 6 pm. Opened in October 2025, the site is part of one of the largest hospital complexes in the Amazon Region and also provides care to patients from the Unified Health System (SUS), with a public-private partnership.

The president was accompanied by the Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha, among other authorities. Padilha said that there was a 15% increase in SUS services provided by the unit and that 342 procedures were carried out at the hospital.

According to Minister Padilha, this type of robotic surgery harms the patient less, there are fewer hospital infections and the patient is discharged earlier.

Hospital São João de Deus has oncology, transplants, nuclear medicine, chemotherapy and hemodialysis services. The unit has 40 thousand square meters of built area and capacity for 240 hospitalization beds, 50 ICU beds and 10 surgical rooms.

After the visit, Lula participated in a campaign event in Praça da República, alongside supporters, including government candidate Hana Gassan (MDB) and candidates for the Senate for Pará Helder Barbalho (MDB), Chicão (União) and the former Minister of Tourism, also a candidate for the Senate, Celso Sabino (PDT).
