Kickboxing fighter is seriously injured after falling ill during training in Divinópolis

Arthur Soares Nogueira, 24, who was taken to a health unit with serious injuries after falling ill during a kickboxing training in Divinópolis, received first aid from other fighters still at the gym. One of the witnesses said that the fighter suffered a nose bleed and his body was stiff.

The case, registered as bodily injury by the Military Police, is being investigated by the Civil Police.

According to police records, Arthur was training at the 'Mathelo Team' gym, in the Interlagos neighborhood, on Tuesday night (18). Fighter Evandro Dourado was at the training center and told g1 that the young man's first sign of discomfort was a nose bleed.

"They asked if everything was ok, he said yes. He wiped his nose and continued training, shortly after he asked to stop, sat down and said that his blood pressure had dropped and asked for water. He drank the water and then his body felt limp", reported Dourado.

As his symptoms worsened, the athlete was taken to an Emergency Care Unit (UPA) and, later, transferred to the Red Room at Hospital São João de Deus.

In a note released on Friday (21), the institution reported that the patient is under intensive care and is being closely monitored by the care team.

Malaise evolved during training

According to Evandro, Arthur has a degree from the Kickboxing federation and is used to training.

The witness recalled that, on Tuesday, after the nosebleed, Arthur rolled his eyes and foamed at the mouth. Then the young man had a seizure.

"He stretched his body very hard and became rigid, it was like an epilepsy attack. When we went to catch him, he jerked very hard and hit his head against the wall. He started rolling his tongue and one of the students, in desperation, held his tongue so as not to suffocate", said Dourado.

According to Evandro, people who were at the gym at the time considered calling the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu), but, fearing the delay, they took Arthur to the UPA, which is five minutes from the training center.

Evolution of the framework

The police record describes that the young man was admitted to the UPA unconscious, with an injury to his nose compatible with a fracture, swelling in the left frontal region of his head, as well as edema and hematoma in his right eye.

According to the PM, during the treatment, the young man presented a change in his neurological condition, suffered a respiratory arrest and needed to be intubated. He was then transferred to the Red Room at Hospital São João de Deus.

Already at the hospital, Arthur was diagnosed with edema in the left region of the head and a brain injury. Faced with the condition, Arthur needed to undergo surgery.

Still according to the police record, the two health units reported that the injuries found were compatible with a blow or trauma.

On the day of the incident, the police went to the gym, but found no one there.
