A man is sentenced to forensic psychiatric care for knife murder

It was in April this year that the woman and her boyfriend went to the house of the now convicted man. They were having a good time - but then he suddenly went on the attack and stabbed her in the throat with a knife.

The boyfriend tried to help the woman, but she died in hospital from her injuries.

- The suspect man and woman previously had a short-term love relationship, but it ended about a year ago, Lundberg said.

Now the man is sentenced to forensic psychiatric care with special discharge examination for the murder of the woman. He is also convicted of drug offenses and violations of the law on the prohibition of knives and other dangerous objects.

- I think the district court clearly explained its reasons. We thought there was reason to consider prison as a penalty, but I'm not surprised by the verdict, says District Attorney Tove Larsson.

Has been in forced care before

The man has been in compulsory care on various occasions for mental problems, most recently in autumn 2025. Voices have urged him to kill, according to documents from the administrative court.

The man has been assessed as suffering from a serious mental disorder, a drug psychosis, during the murder itself, and the defense believes that he should be sentenced to forensic psychiatric care as he had no intent to kill.

- There are no particular reasons for sentencing him to prison in this case, lawyer Josef Angerbjörn told SVT earlier.

Asked for 16 years in prison

The prosecutor demanded imprisonment for 16 years in the first instance and forensic psychiatric care in the second instance. The prosecuting attorney wanted to see a prison sentence of 18 years. The district court thus sided with the defense.

The evidence consists, among other things, of witness statements and DNA traces on the knife.

- I cannot give a definitive answer to that at the moment, says Chamber prosecutor Tove Larsson.
