Maruti Suzuki Reports 21.3% Rise in August Sales

Maruti Suzuki reported a 21.3% rise in total sales for August 2026. Domestic passenger vehicle sales drove this significant growth, increasing by 34.8%. Utility vehicles were the primary growth driver, with sales surging 46.3% in the period. Exports saw a decline of 7.4% during the same month. The company crossed one million units sold within the first five months of FY27.

Maruti Suzuki India reported a 21.3% year-on-year rise in total sales to 2,19,220 units in August 2026, compared with 1,80,683 units in the same month last year, as domestic passenger vehicle sales continued to drive growth.

The automaker's domestic sales, including light commercial vehicles, rose 34.3% to 1,80,078 units from 1,34,050 units a year earlier. Exports, however, declined 7.4% to 33,844 units from 36,538 units.

Maruti Suzuki said it crossed the 1-million-unit milestone in total sales within the first five months of FY27. Between April and August, the company sold 11,43,365 units, compared with 8,89,070 units in the corresponding period of FY26.

Maruti's shares were trading at Rs 12985.95 apiece on the BSE, down 3.67% on Tuesday as of 1 PM.

Utility vehicles drive domestic sales

Domestic passenger vehicle sales rose 34.8% to 1,76,971 units in August from 1,31,278 units a year earlier.

Utility vehicles were the biggest growth driver, with sales rising 46.3% to 79,045 units from 54,043 units in August 2025.

The segment includes models such as Brezza, Ertiga, e Vitara, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny, Victoris and XL6.

Passenger car sales across the mini and compact-plus-mid-size segments rose 29.4% to 85,965 units from 66,450 units.

Within this, sales of Alto and S-Presso increased to 8,799 units from 6,853 units, while the compact and mid-size segment, comprising Baleno, Celerio, Ciaz, Dzire, Ignis, Swift and WagonR, rose to 77,166 units from 59,597 units.

Van sales also increased to 11,961 units from 10,785 units.

Exports dip in August

Maruti Suzuki's exports fell in August despite remaining higher on a cumulative basis for the financial year.

The company exported 33,844 units in August, down from 36,538 units a year earlier. For April-August, however, exports rose 14.2% to 1,88,636 units from 1,65,255 units.

Sales to other original equipment manufacturers also declined to 5,298 units in August from 10,095 units a year earlier.

For the first five months of FY27, domestic sales including LCVs and OEM sales stood at 9,54,729 units, compared with 7,23,815 units in the year-ago period.

The August sales numbers come ahead of India's key festive buying period, when automobile demand typically gains momentum.
