'He looked at me and said: I killed your daughter', reports mother of feminicide victim in Porto Alegre

Housewife Thaís de Araújo participated in a protest this Saturday (10) in the Restinga neighborhood, in the South Zone of the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, to ask for a Specialized Police Station for Women's Assistance (Deam) in the region — a demand that gained strength after Thamires' death.

She was the one who found her daughter dead at home, with her partner still at the scene of the crime. Thaís had gone to take her granddaughter back to her granddaughter who had spent the night at her grandmother's house. Thamires left two children.

"I arrived at the house and knocked, knocked, knocked. When he opened the bathroom window, he gave off a very strong stench of alcohol. I asked where Thamires was, if they had fought because he was scratched. He transformed himself saying: give me my daughter. I said I wasn't going to give my granddaughter and asked: where is my daughter", says Thaís.

At that moment, she forced the door and entered the house to find her daughter on the floor, already lifeless. The mother says that Thamires and Douglas had no history of fighting. On the contrary: the whole family maintained a good relationship.

"Too revolting. I never called him Douglas. I called him my little son-in-law. 'Hi son, let's have a barbecue today'. I got along better with him than with my daughter. They never fought, he was a wonderful father, a wonderful husband. The son was in love with his father", he says.

During this Saturday's protest, residents gathered on the Restinga esplanade, the most populous neighborhood in Porto Alegre with 62 thousand people. The nearest Deam is 17 kilometers away.

The Civil Police stated in a note: "Installing a women's police station on site is a priority, but there is a lack of staff for structuring. The expectation is that, with the call for new candidates, it will be possible to provide the service next year. The child in a Sala das Margaridas next to the neighborhood police station is scheduled for the beginning of next month."
