MLB Arizona Ketel Marte moved from restricted list to 10-day injured list

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Dong-han = Ketel Marte (32, Arizona Diamondbacks), the ‘161 billion won man’ who plays in the Major League Baseball (MLB), was moved from the restricted player list to the 10-day injured list (IL).

MLB.com reported on the 21st (Korean time) that Marte was placed on the injured list after inflammation in his left knee was discovered in a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) test.

Previously, Marte was scheduled to start as a designated hitter in the visiting game against the Boston Red Sox on the 18th, but did not appear on the field.

The Arizona team waited for Marte to arrive and delayed announcing the starting roster until about 20 minutes before kickoff, but eventually placed him on the restricted list.

Marte later returned to Phoenix, Arizona, and underwent an examination of his left knee.

On the 21st, Marte met with general manager Mike Hazen and manager Tory Lovelow at Salt River Fields with his agent and discussed what happened over the past week.

Director Hazen said, "I will not reveal specific details," and added, "The conversation and meeting were productive. Marte will talk to his colleagues, and we will monitor the situation thereafter."

Because Marte was on the restricted player list, his date on the injured list cannot be retroactive to his last appearance, and he will not be able to play for 10 days from the 20th (local time).

The club hopes that Marte will be able to return immediately after completing his registration period or shortly thereafter.

Arizona ranks third in the National League (NL) West Division with 67 wins, 61 losses, and a winning percentage of 0.523.

They are one game behind the San Diego Padres of the same district, who took the last wild card spot.

Marte, who signed a six-year contract with Arizona for $116.5 million (approximately 161 billion won) in April last year, is recording a batting average of 0.249 (117 hits in 469 at-bats), 21 home runs, 67 RBIs, and OPS (on-base percentage + slugging percentage) of 0.760 this season.
