MPF asks Discord for urgent measures to protect children and adolescents

The MPF (Federal Public Ministry) reinforced the request made to the government to the Court for Discord to adopt urgent measures to protect children and adolescents. Like the government, the Public Ministry defends that the platform complies with Brazilian law.

The MPF asks that Discord be obliged to preserve records and data on events that led to the death of the 13-year-old girl, in addition to adopting measures that prevent the recreation of investigated channels and the return of banned accounts.

The agency also requires the presentation of a compliance plan within 30 days with effectiveness indicators, audit mechanisms that guarantee age measurement, parental supervision and prevention of risky contacts.

In the statement sent to the Court, the body states that there is evidence that the protection and moderation instruments have not been working.

"There is also news of rapid reorganization of the communities investigated after the banning of accounts and servers. Delays in adopting measures could compromise both the safety of potential victims and the preservation of evidence and the identification of those responsible", says the agency.
