A driver dies and his co-driver is seriously injured when his car crashes in the Rally Challenge Mallorca 550

A 59-year-old German driver has died and his co-driver, 39 years old and also German, has suffered spinal injuries in a serious accident that occurred this Friday morning at the Rally Challenge Mallorca 550.

The accident occurred around 1:00 p.m., when at kilometer 10 of the MA-10, heading from Pollensa towards Lluc, his vehicle left the road and plunged into a ravine in Mortitx, in the Serra de Tramuntana.

The Mallorca Firefighters intervened in the accident with troops displaced from the Inca and Alcúdia parks to carry out the rescue work. Health workers from a private company treated her and transferred her to the Son Espases University Hospital, where she was admitted.

For its part, the judicial procession will travel to the scene of the incident to proceed to the removal of the body. The Judicial Police unit of the Civil Guard of Inca has opened an investigation to clarify the circumstances in which the accident occurred in which these two people, both of German nationality, were involved. At the moment it is unknown if it has been caused by a poor maneuver at the wheel, by a fault in the vehicle or by other causes, sources close to the case have indicated.

The sixth edition of the 550 Challenge Mallorca rally has been held since Thursday and was going to last until Saturday. The competition has been suspended, according to a statement from the organization.
